The Korean Crisis of 1950 – A Joint Simulation of War, Diplomacy, and Global Politics

Freeze Date: June 25, 1950

“War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Ignorance is strength.”

— George Orwell, 1984

The Korean War began on June 25, 1950, when North Korea launched a surprise invasion across the 38th parallel, plunging the Korean Peninsula—and the world—into conflict. The war quickly escalated into a Cold War flashpoint, drawing in global powers and altering the course of international relations.

This interconnected simulation features two parallel committees. The Joint Crisis Committee reenacts the immediate wartime decisions of political and military leaders in North and South Korea. Simultaneously, the United Nations Security Council, composed of state representatives as of June 25, 1950, debates the global response. Real-time updates and inter-committee consequences will challenge delegates to act decisively in an environment where every move may tip the balance between diplomacy and destruction.
