No one puts their children in a boat unless the water is safer than the land."

With over 100 million displaced people worldwide, the refugee crisis has reached an unprecedented scale due to conflicts in Syria, Afghanistan, Ukraine, Sudan, and Myanmar. Refugees often face hostile immigration policies, statelessness, and lack of access to basic rights, including education, healthcare, and employment. Host countries, particularly those in Europe, the Middle East, and South Asia, struggle with the socio-economic burden of large refugee inflows, leading to debates over border control vs. humanitarian responsibility.

Delegates must discuss solutions that balance national security concerns with international obligations under the 1951 Refugee Convention. Key issues include equitable burden-sharing, funding for refugee support programs, and pathways to legal integration. Should states prioritize resettlement programs, temporary safe zones, or voluntary repatriation? Additionally, xenophobia and political backlash against refugees in many nations highlight the need for global cooperation and stronger international frameworks. The committee will seek to formulate policies that uphold human dignity while ensuring sustainable solutions for both refugees and host countries.
